Ackordscentralen’s history
The history of Ackordscentralen begins in 1857, when the Gothenburg Merchants’ Association was founded. Shortly after, associations in Stockholm (1858) and Malmö (1880) were founded. Together, these associations build a nationwide network of representatives that reported on the credit worthiness of businessmen – an early Swedish solvency reporting system built on an advanced code and valuation system.
In 1907, the different merchants’ associations each instituted special composition and bankruptcy divisions, and in 1929 the operations were formally coordinated by a common board that was to be called Ackordscentralen. The first chair of the board was the silk manufacturer Knut August Almgren, a respected and colorful businessman. During the first one hundred years, small compositions and bankruptcies comprised the majority of the operations, while the latter few decades have been dominated by reorganizations and bankruptcies. Ackordscentralen is thereby one of Sweden’s oldest and most experienced actors within insolvency law.
In 1998, Ackordscentralen was reconstituted as a foundation.
